چکیده

Despite their ubiquity, surface occurrences of obsidian artifacts at archaeological sites throughout western North America have traditionally been viewed as unworthy serious attention because the difficulty in dating them. In past 40 years, time sensitivity certain Great Basin projectile point types has established, which brings importance collections more center stage. With coming age and refinement geochemical methods, from these can now be analyzed using nondestructive instrumental methods matched to geological eruptive origin on basis congruence trace rare earth element chemistry. Many assemblages contain considerable numbers points that, when chemical source origin, open up entirely new ways investigate change continuity land use social relations. The present study was conducted lower Humboldt Valley Nevada, where large collected by professional archaeologists over century housed academic institutions museums. this study, than 900 bifaces were 24 localities within energy-dispersive X-ray fluorescence (EDXRF) bring data bear question whether changes occurred there 5000 years (as determined time-sensitive points). Significant identified direction distance-to-source arrow vs. dart points, series Basal-notched bifaces, implicate directional shifts through relations among peoples using—and during some periods living in—the Valley. These results provide independent evaluate current views about use, artifact conveyance, relations, technological beyond.

Venous Embolization of a Lower Extremity Projectile

Foreign body migration into the vasculature and subsequent embolization is a rare complication of both medical procedures and penetrating trauma. Endovascular filters, wires, and pins have been found to travel through the vasculature resulting in a variety of complications, including death [1]. In the case of penetrating trauma, the incidence of bullet migration into the vasculature is approxim...

A Liquefaction Hazard Map of the Las Vegas Valley, Nevada

The potential for basin amplification of ground motion from significant seismic sources 100-200 km (62-124 mi.) from the Las Vegas Valley (such as the Death Valley Fault System) and Quaternary faults in the valley could provide sufficient energy to cause liquefaction. Key criteria of liquefiable soils coupled with a shallow groundwater table (less than 15 m (50 ft)) are met at several sites in ...

550-Year Reconstruction of Streamflow Variability in Spring Valley, Nevada

Spring Valley, Nevada, is one of several areas proposed for the pumping and export of ground-water to Las Vegas by the Southern Nevada Water Authority. Long-term annual-to-decadal variability of water supply in the region is not well understood, so tree-ring records were used to develop a longer baseline of variability in streamflow and drought episodes. Long-lived (up to about 600 years), clim...
